Regionally Good Cullinary Chefs make the meals around NOLA all the more pleasurable; Thank-you! Deep-Fried Peanuts ... eat them shell and all ... yummm :>) Deep Fried MushrooM's ... its all about the batter, type MushrooM and da Dippin' Sauce; popcorn mushrooms are deliciously fun :>) Gumbo ... what's in the gumbo anyway? the question is, what's not in the gumbo? Bouttes, the Gumbo House and Acme Oyster House in the French Quarter all have good Gumbo. |
- Fishing Trips
Here in Southeastern Louisiana it is a great place to get seafood: shrimp, oysters, bluecrabs ... on the boat there are great opportunities to catch a lot of Bass, Flounder, Marlin, Redfish, Trout and more. For an incredible fishing experience, find a Regional Guide and go where only the locals know best. Still leave plenty of room for "Passin' a Good Time" because down south, it is a sportpersons' paradise. Mr. Pittfull's Fishing Guide Service {Captains: Steve & Tim} is often available for a good price; you may not catch any fish, yet you won't really care {www.metalmushroom5@gmail.com}. However, for the real-deal fish catching experience, go with the Pros ... Captain Todd may be able to schedule you in. Contact Tim for more specific info {tim@mushroomnola.com}.
- Acadiana
Central Louisiana from Leeville / Larose on through Lafouche down thru Cocodrie, Morgan City and out into the southwestern swamps {goto Avery Island - Home of Tabasco, say Hi to George, an 18 ft. pet alligator :>} plus Acadiana continues up into the Atchafalaya Basin. There are firm Roots well established by these good natured people. Excellent Music! Great Food!
- Chandeleur Islands
An eroding natural protective barrier to Louisiana's eastern coastline, the Chandelier Islands have been decreed a National Park Preserve to ensure it's restoration, rehabilitation {the islands were greatly damaged by H. Katrina} and preservation for the future. It provides an excellent fishery, bird migration and coastline ecosystem. They have beautiful sandy beaches; just nothing like it was in the 1800's.
- Delacroix
Delacroix, Louisiana is the Gateway to Eastern Louisiana's Brackish Marsh Land that is both great for trout catches and fun times! The tidal shift brings with the fresh and saltwater mix some excellent wildlife and great fishing. Experience the wetlands 1st hand on a swamp-boat ride and "pass a good time ... just hold-on!" Coastal Restoration is a major factor for this area. Due to the tidal surge, it is imperative for New Orleans that barriers be established and respected by both nature and human beings. It is possible to coexist while also bettering this long-time existent fluvial wetland system.
- Grand Isle
Grand Isle, Louisiana is a barrier island between the Gulf of Mexico and Barataria Bay. Grand Isle was a major retreat destination in Antebellum Louisiana. Home of the Grand Tarpin Rodeo, Grand Isle has a National Park Preserve that is good for camping, cool beaches, awesome waves and lots of great seafood. Grand Isle is a major fishing community. Pass a good time.
- Lafitte
Come experience Lafitte for yourself during the Seafood Festival, September 11th - 13th, 2009. Downtown Lafitte, bring an appitite; there will be a lot of good eatin' :>) A community on the Edge of Barataria, Home of the Fisher Gators, Lafitte is someplace special. Have a pinic in City Park or drop your boat and venture out into the swampland. If your hungry there is plenty of good seafood at Boutte's, Jan's or Voleo's; do you something right and pass a good time :>) For more info about Lafitte, check out: www.alongthebayou.com
- Lake Pontchartrain
The Brackish Lake Pontchartrain and it's surrounding watershed is a major part of the Louisiana Wetland Ecosystem. This aquatic network connects the Central Louisiana Bayous, Lake Maurepas, Tchfunka, Bogafalaya & other Northshore fresh-water Rivers to Lake Katherine, the Rigoletes, Honey Island, the Chandelier Islands and the Gulf of Mexico. There is good shoreline fishing: see Scott {Rachelle} he is an expert shoreline fisherman, on both the northshore, southshore and West Coast. As well, there are several fishing piers, boat launches and artificial reefs that have proven to be very sucessful. Pontchartrain Beach (where Elysian Fields meets the Lake by UNO) is very cool as well as the closest Beach to New Orleans. www.saveourlake.org
